Creatures & Critters

Creatures and Critters

.

.

Barrier Games for Referential Communication

.

TARGET GROUP: 4-8 years

Strengthen your students’ semantic, syntactic, and pragmatic language skills using these fun and engaging cards. Children love to talk about the dinosaurs, frogs, dogs, cats, and rabbits illustrated in the 5 card decks.

Help your students learn how to:

 Take turns
 Understand listener needs
 Effectively give and follow directions

Adapt any of these games for individual and group use:

Let’s Go Fish with Creatures and Critters. The identical-pair card game allows children to describe pictures creating a situation for continual communicative intent.
Barrier Sequencing with Creatures and Critters. Children take turns describing and listening for particular details of colorful drawings. As they learn to distinguish particular characteristics of dinosaurs and animals, they direct their partner to position cards appropriately without visual cues.
Let’s Use “Concentration” to Communicate. In this game children work in teams to describe and match cards. Use it to challenge visual and auditory memory and encourage effective communication and problem solving.

Five colorful card decks feature a variety of dinosaurs and other animals-70 cards in all. The manual includes directions for the games, IEP objectives for language, and reproducible pre-/post-measurement forms and data sheets.

Use Creatures and Critters successfully with preschool and elementary aged children who have communicative disorders.
