A revision of the Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test (K-BIT), the KBIT-2 is a quick and reliable measure of intelligence. The KBIT-2 provides an improved Verbal scale, including receptive and expressive vocabulary items that do not require reading or spelling. It also offers new, attractive, full-color test items that are specially designed to appeal to children and reluctant examinees. In addition, it is conormed with the Brief Form of the popular Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement, 2nd Ed. (KTEA-II).

The KBIT-2 measures two distinct cognitive functions through two subtests: Verbal and Nonverbal. The Verbal subtest contains two item types (Verbal Knowledge and Riddles) that measure crystallized ability; the Nonverbal subtest includes a Matrices subtest that measures fluid reasoning. By measuring both verbal and nonverbal ability, the KBIT-2 presents a balanced view of an individual’s intelligence. Moreover, the inclusion of both verbal and nonverbal subtests in the KBIT-2 affords the examiner flexibility when testing a person with special needs.

Like the original, the KBIT-2 continues to provide high reliability and validity, cultural fairness reflected in norming procedures and item selection, and convenient and fast administration. Additionally, the KBIT-2 can be used in a variety of situations. With the KBIT-2, you can quickly estimate intelligence; estimate an individual’s verbal versus nonverbal intelligence; re-evaluate the intellectual status of a child or an adult who previously received a thorough cognitive assessment; screen to identify students who may benefit from enrichment or gifted programs; and quickly estimate the intellectual ability of adults in institutional settings (e.g., prisons, group homes, rehabilitation clinics, mental health centers).
